The Eye of the Beholder

The Eye of the Beholder They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Lately I've re-evaluated my own interpretation of that saying. Can it also mean that the beholder him/herself is beautiful, just because he/she is capable to see certain things, features that other people don't appreciate?

Lights out!

You averted your eyes
And darkness fell.
Entire rivers flow now out of sight
And in my cheeks, I feel the rain.
Will someone bring back the light?
Will anybody ever see me again?

Y casi ninguno reconoce.

Besos voladores ;-)

You know, I understand that perfectly.

They do count, of course. And you don't lose your identity, just cause someone else changes his/her perception of you. I only meant to say that one can often feel invisible in today's world, specially living in a big city, where thousands of people cross your path everyday, but few really can spare the time to take a close look at you. That is why you really treasure the moment when someone else suddenly seems to notice and appreciate you. And it does hurt when that person changes his/her mind, cause no matter how strong your sense of identity is, that person's opinion does matter to you.

Interesting addition to the general interpretation of the saying. Perhaps that's true. The capacity to see further, to penetrate with vision the inner layers, may be considered a sign of beauty in the beholder...I like that.

As for the poem...well, does someone's averted vision detract from the existence of another? Is it necessary for one to see you for you to exist? You are talking about your perception of this person's vision? And what about those who see you, whom you do NOT perceive? Don't they count?

Oh, boy, que menrollao!
